There are many cheap pay as you go phones on the market, perfect if you never want to be shocked again by the price of a pay monthly bill. Cheap pay as you go phones are also known as ‘pre-pay phones’ which are ideal if you want rid of all surprises from a monthly phone bill.

Pay as you go phones are self explanatory, simply pay for calling credits (known as topping-up) upfront.  Once you’ve used all the calling credit you have topped up, you’ll no not be able to make calls (but you can receive calls) until you top-up.

Cheap pay as you go phones are also much simpler to buy than the traditional pay monthly phones, as pay monthly means a contract and a credit check. Cheap pay as you go mobile phone plans don’t have this often stressful step, eliminating the chance of possibly being declined a credit check.

Pay as you go phones are completely prepaid so once it’s paid it’s yours to keep simply top up calling credit whenever you want or need.

Also what’s fantastic about a cheap pay as you go phones is that they are not subject to any minimum term contract (which usually is for one or two years with pay monthly phones).

Because cheap pay as you go phones don’t have any contract, if you ever decide to change your mobile phone network (from vodaphone to orange for example) you will not be charged a penalty fee. A penalty fee is charged for breaking a pay monthly contract.

The benefits of not having a contract with a pay as you go phone continues to mount; pay monthly phones could mean numerous service charges, late fees or mistaken overcharges that can come with a traditional pay monthly phone bill.

Quite often you can change your tariff once you own a pay as you go phone, depending on what is cheapest for you. This is usually not possible with pay monthly phones.

All mobile phone networks have many ways to top up your calling credit including; over the phone (automated) with credit or debit card, over the counter (most supermarkets, petrol stations and grocery stores) in cash or card, bank cash point, or purchasing vouchers in stores.

In the long run ‘cheap pay as you go phones’ could save you hundreds in phone bills as they give you greater control of the cost.
